My First Story – The Island

It was 5.00 AM in the morning. The sun was rising and the sky was red. The alarm clock rang and Jim Watson woke up. He opened the windows of his bedroom and looked at the city. Half of the city was still asleep. He thought how unlucky other people were to sleep when the sun was rising and to miss such a beautiful sight. He remembered his office. It took him nearly an hour to get ready. It was already late, so he had no time for breakfast. He left for his office.

He worked at the meteorological office in Bhopal. It was a usual summer morning for him. The weather was cool. He reached his office and started monitoring the weather by watching the pictures they were receiving from the satellite. It was a clear day and so he had nothing much to do.

Just then, half way round the world, in New York, a girl named Maria was observing the night sky with her telescope. Her telescope was not as powerful as the ones in the research centers, but it was powerful enough to view the different planets and stars in the night sky. As she was watching the sky, she observed that something was flying in the sky. It was unusually bright, and green in colour. She was amazed to see it and took some pictures of the object.

As Jim had nothing to do, he began chatting with Maria. They had been chatting with each other for the entire month. They had many common interests and moreover, Maria was from India and had gone to the US, whereas Jim was from US and had settled in India. As they were chatting, Maria showed Jim the pictures she had taken, but even Jim had never seen such an object before. From the pictures, the object appeared to be close to earth, but it had not appeared in any of the satellite pictures he was observing. He was also amazed and told Maria that he would tell her if he found anything about it. He started scrutinizing the satellite pictures again.

As he looked closely, he found something unusual with the satellite pictures. There was a spot in the Indian Ocean that was mysteriously blank in the picture. He wanted to know what was at that location, so he compared it with the previous pictures. He found that the there was nothing there initially and that the spot had appeared all of a sudden and it was growing in size. He asked his colleagues and they too were surprised to see such a spot.

Soon, the spot was detected by meteorological departments all over the world. The whole day had almost passed. No one was able to tell what that spot was. Some Tamil fishermen reported that they had seen a flash of green light fall into that area and there had been very heavy fog since then. On hearing this Jim remembered the pictures Maria had sent him the same morning. He decided to go to Tamil Nadu to check if his doubt was correct. So he asked permission from the head of the department, Mr. Jitendra Yadav, which he got immediately and he left for Tamil Nadu. Mr. Jitendra Yadav had full confidence in Jim.

On reaching Tamil Nadu, he went straight to the coastal regions where the fishermen had seen the light. When he reached the coastal areas, he realized that he did not understand the local language of the area. With much difficulty, he found a person who knew a bit of English. Now he was able to communicate with the local people. He showed them the pictures he had received from Maria and asked them if the light they had seen looked like the one in the pictures. Their answer was in the affirmative. In addition to this they told him that whoever went into that area did not return.

He spent the whole week talking to the fishermen of different areas who had seen the green light. All the fishermen in the region were terrified and were in a state of shock. There was no news of anyone who had gone close to that area. After having visited all the regions, he started his return journey to Bhopal. He was expecting that someone would have already identified where the region was and what was causing the problem.

* * * *

On reaching Bhopal, he checked his mail. He got a pleasant surprise. Maria had mailed him that she was coming back home the same day and wanted to meet him if possible. She had said that she would give him a call to ask if they could meet. He looked forward to the meeting. He had seen her photograph, but had never met her. He now had lots of things to tell her. He looked at his watch. There were still three more hours left for her arrival. So, he went to Mr. Jitendra and discussed what he learnt from the fishermen.

After hearing Jim’s account, Mr. Jitendra told him that they had decided to send a team to that location to find out what was going on at that spot in the Indian Ocean. This team consisted of various experts from all over the world and even Jim was a member of the team. He finally said, “Two other teams had been sent by air, but we have lost contact with both these teams. All the members of these teams are missing. I know that this is not going to be an easy expedition, but I have full confidence in you. You will surely be successful. And yes, you are going by a ship from Chennai and not by air. The ship leaves in two days. So get ready. You are leaving for Chennai tomorrow morning. I wish you all the best.” In reply, Jim just said, “Thank you, sir. I won’t disappoint you.” and went away.

Jim was a bit disappointed. He was hoping to spend the whole day with Maria, but now he had to spend it making preparations for his journey. He started making a list of things he required for the journey, and kept them in a suitcase one by one. After packing the essential things, he looked at the time. It was half-past three. He knew it was time for Maria to come. The telephone bell rang. Before he lifted the receiver, his heart told him that it was Maria.

He lifted the receiver. Maria said, “Hi!! What are you doing?”

He said, “Packing.”

Maria was surprised. She said, “Packing?!? Why? You have just returned from a journey!”

He said, “Yeah! But Mr. Jitendra wants me to go in an expedition.”

She said, “Oh! Can we still meet? Even I am going in an expedition.”

Jim continued, “You too!! What kind of expedition? Okay, let’s meet and discuss.”

Maria said, “Where shall we meet?”

He replied, “Wherever you say.”

Maria said, “Okay then. Come to the boating zone at the lake.”

Jim said, “Okay then, I’ll meet you in half-an-hour.” and hung up. He went straight to the lake. When he reached he found Maria was waiting there. He asked her, “I hope I haven’t kept you waiting for long.” She said, “No! I reached here just five minutes ago.” They hired a boat and went into the lake. Jim told her details of his visit to the coastal regions of Tamil Nadu. He told her everything he knew about the spot in the Indian Ocean and told her that many other people had seen the green flash of light that night. He told her that he was going to find out what that region was. On hearing this Maria told Jim that she too knew a bit about the spot and she had come to India only to join the same expedition on which Jim was going.

On hearing this, Jim’s happiness knew no bounds. He was happy that he knew at least someone who was going with him. He thought, “I know this journey is not going to be easy, but at least Maria will be with me all the time. Whatever dangers will come, we will face them together. At times when your life is at risk, it is good to know that someone is with you.” He was completely lost in thoughts for sometime. He secretly loved Maria, but was afraid of telling her. He did not know what was in her heart and did not want to lose her as a friend by expressing his love for her. Then Maria asked him if he knew anyone else who was coming on the expedition. Jim, lost in his thoughts, was startled on hearing Maria. He replied that he did not know anyone else. They spent some time together at the lake. They decided to meet each other at the airport next morning, and then they departed.

Next morning, Jim woke up early as usual. He looked out of his window, but he no longer thought about the people living in the city. He knew that the expedition in which he was going could even cost him his life. Looking at the rising sun, he though, “Only God knows what is going to happen in the expedition. I don’t know if I will be ever able to see this scene again.” He got ready soon, picked his bag and took a taxi to the airport. He reached there and waited for Maria at the gate. After ten minutes, she arrived. They went in, got their boarding passes and boarded the plane. It took them around two hours to reach Chennai.

From Chennai airport, they went straight to the port. They saw a ship was anchored at the port and was ready to sail. They found that it was the ship meant for them. The ship was large. The crew consisted of three thousand people who had come from different nations. All of them carried various equipments with them. Many military personnel were also present on the ship. They carried guns in their hands. All this made them feel as if they were going to some war. They boarded the ship.

Jim found to his surprise that Tanmay, his old friend, was the captain of the ship. He and Tanmay had studied together in college and had been neighbours for three years. He knew that Tanmay was a nice person and also very brave. He had heard many incidents of Tanmay’s bravery. He went to meet Tanmay in his cabin. Tanmay was pleased to meet Jim. They discussed various things. Jim told Tanmay what he had heard about the place they were going. Tanmay told Jim not to worry. He said that as long as their heart was free from the fear of failure, they would surely succeed. Tanmay also narrated various voyages to Jim. He told Jim how sheer courage had saved him many times.

It was time for the ship to sail. Everything was set. A large crowd had gathered at the port to wish them success. They all wanted to know what was happening at the ocean. Finally, Tanmay blew the horn, the propellers started rotating and the ship started sailing. The whole crowd was shouting to cheer the crew. The ship sailed south. After sometime, the land was no longer visible. The spot where they were heading was not far. It was huge and they did now know what troubles they would encounter there.

* * * *

After sailing for one day, they had covered quite a distance and were close to the spot. Jim and Maria were seated at the deck along with Tanmay. Tanmay was the first to notice something peculiar about the heavy fog in front of them. They were about to reach the spot. Tanmay rushed to the control room. He knew that nothing could be seen in such a dense fog. Within ten minutes the ship entered the fog. No one could see anything, not even the face of the person sitting next. All were terrified. Many began to think that their end had come and started praying. Tanmay found that the fog was so dense that even the equipment of the ship could not be seen. The wireless and radio communication devices were not working. The radio signals were unable to pass the fog which was like a solid barrier. Everyone was silent. They all were left at the mercy of God. The ship went straight. It made no sense to control its direction.

They had spent about two hours in the fog. Finally, they felt the fog was becoming lighter. When the fog cleared, what they saw was terrifying. They found themselves in a large canyon. It was extremely rocky on both sides and the gap was so small that there was absolutely no way to turn the ship. Tanmay was moving the ship forward with extreme care. He checked all maps of the area. No such place was expected in that region. He began to think, “From where did this region occur? What might be there?”

Just then, the flow of the water increased with great speed. It was not possible to control the ship. It was moving ahead with such a speed that if anything struck it then the ship was sure to be destroyed. All were hoping that the ship would stop somewhere safely. People were murmuring among themselves. Then, to add to their difficulties, they saw that the passage ended after around eight hundred meters. The end of the passage was also made of rocks. At their current speed they were going to crash into the rocks.

People were extremely terrified. Many jumped out of the ship into the water. The water was freezing. Most of the people who jumped into the water hit themselves against the rocks and died, while some died as they froze in the water. Only a few of them survived. Announcements were made and every one was requested to remain calm, but to remain calm in such dangerous hours is almost impossible. There was utter chaos in the ship.

The ship neared the rocks, but as soon as the ship struck against the rocks, something happened. There was an explosion and green light was emitted. When the green light was gone, no person was there, not even those who had jumped into the water. Only the bodies of the dead and the remains of the broken ship could be found.

* * * *

Tanmay opened his eyes. The sun was shining above him. The first thought that came to his mind was that he was dead and he had reached heaven. He sat up and looked around. He was on a large grassland. The grass was soft and dark-green in colour. There were a few trees here and there. He found Jim sleeping at some distance. He found that most of the crew was there and were asleep. He went and woke up Jim. Then he and Jim set out waking up all others. It took around three hours for all the people present there wake up. Now the question was where exactly were they and how had they reached there?

They started moving around. As a result, they were separated into groups of three or four. Only few groups were of size greater than five. Jim, Maria and Tanmay stayed together. Their group consisted of sixteen members including some army personnel. After sometime, each group had moved far away and had no contact with any other group.

Tanmay tried to send messages on wireless, but no one seemed to receive it. He tried a lot of times, but no one replied. At last, Tanmay was disappointed and he gave up trying. He thought that they could never come out of the place. There was a forest nearby. Tanmay knew that it was not good to wander into unknown forests, but Jim kept on insisting to go into the forest. Jim told, “My heart is telling me that something is there in this forest which is behind all this mystery.” So, even if Tanmay hesitated, they wandered into the forest. Tanmay believed Jim’s instincts in such matters. Ever since Tanmay knew Jim, Jim’s instinct had helped them identify many problems.

They wandered in the forest without knowing where to go. They did not know which direction to take, which not to. They moved aimlessly in the forest for quite some time. Night had begun to fall. The sun was about to set. They did not have much time left as the forest would be soon completely dark. They had to find a place to spend the night. They did not know where to sleep. They had reached a part of the forest which was very dense. Tanmay decided that they would spend the night on the branches of the trees. So, they climbed the tress and found themselves suitable places where they could rest and lay there. Most of them fell asleep as soon as they lied down, but Jim could not sleep. He was restless. He began to wonder how this place would have been created. It takes years and years for such canyons to be created. Even trees take some years to grow. How was it possible that a place where there was nothing but just the sea had been transformed into such a vast location consisting of dense forest, grasslands, canyons and probably many more things that they haven’t seen yet. Tired and confused, he fell asleep.

That night he had a dream. He saw that he, along with Maria and Tanmay had been kept captive in a prison. He and Tanmay were in the same cell. Maria was in another cell that was in front of them. Some monstrous creatures were guarding the prison. These creatures were odd. They were green in colour and had only one eye, but still they had the sense of depth and distance. Their bodies were huge. They had four legs and four hands. The mouth was on the opposite side of the eye. Suddenly drums could be heard. It sounded as if some religious festival was going on. Then suddenly two other monstrous creatures came into the prison. They tied Jim, Maria and Tanmay to wooden logs and took them and kept the logs on some huge vessels. These vessels contained large amount of some oil. These vessels were kept on wood. After keeping the logs, they set fire to the wood below it. The oil started heating up. Jim’s body started burning. There was so much heat coming from the oil that his clothes caught fire. He was certain that he was about to die. Just then he woke up.

From the colour of the sky he guessed that it must be around 2:00 AM in the morning. He did not know what the dream meant. Was it just a dream or did it mean anything. Had he seen the creatures? He became restless. He could not even move around. He tried to sleep, but he could not. All sorts of negative thoughts came into his mind. He could do nothing but wait for the others to wake up. He just lay where he was and tried not to think about the dream, but even if he tried his best, he could not stop himself from thinking about the dream.

He could not sleep the whole night. At around 5:00 AM, Tanmay woke up. Jim told Tanmay about the dream he had last night. Tanmay told him that it was just a bad dream and asked him to forget about the dream. They were talking about how they should go about in the forest. Tanmay suggested that they should find some water source and should keep close to it. It would help them to find water to drink and also easier to find if there was any life in that place as he believed that if there was any life in that place then it would certainly be near some water source.

By mid-day all had risen. Maria was the last to wake up. She was still feeling drowsy. They had nothing to eat at breakfast or lunch. Tanmay declared that if they wanted to survive they had to find some water source as soon as possible. Since they had no idea which direction to take, they decided to go east. They did not have a compass, so they looked at the sun and tried to guess the direction. Since, it was mid-day, the sun was just overhead. It is not easy to guess the direction in the noon. So, Tanmay decided that they must wait till the afternoon.

At afternoon, Tanmay looked at the sun and asked everyone to move in the opposite direction. They kept moving for five hours without any rest. After five hours they were so tired that they could move no further. They had no food to eat and no water to drink. No one knew about the trees. So, Tanmay asked all not to eat any fruit as it might be poisonous. One of them was so hungry that he could not resist himself from eating a fruit. As soon as he ate it, he started vomiting. He knew he had eaten some poisonous fruit. As they could not provide him any medicine, he was unable to survive for more than thirty minutes.

Having lost one of their teammates, they were now more terrified. They decided to move on. They had to wait often to rest. They moved east for three days. On the fourth day at about noon, they saw a group of sparrows in the sky flying north-east. Tanmay told the group, “I hope this group of sparrow flying above suggests that there must be some water source nearby. Let’s follow them. Let’s move north-east. And all of you stick together. If anyone wanders away, there is no hope to find the person.” After listening to Tanmay, they all changed their direction to north-east.

They followed the direction of the sparrows. They walked the whole day, but did not find any signs of water. Their hope was fading. They were both hungry and thirsty. Suddenly someone shouted, “Hurray!! We have got something to eat. This is a neem tree. I know it.” Everyone rushed to the spot. Tanmay agreed that they should eat something. So, everyone ate neem leaves and its fruit. They were very bitter, but when one is hungry anything can be eaten. After eating everyone rested there for a while.

They rested there for about an hour. Then they again started walking towards the north-east direction. Everyone was becoming weak. Their arms and legs were injured as a result of insect bites and thorns of various plants. Their feet were bleeding. The wounds in Jim’s feet were infected. Pus was coming out of them. When he looked carefully, he could see insets moving about in his wounds. Tanmay had some first aid, but they could not use it without washing the wounds. They were moving ahead, just hoping that they could find some water source.

The forest was getting denser and denser. It was now being very difficult for them to move between the trees. Suddenly it started raining. They were excited. They brought out as many utensils they had and collected water. They drank water to quench their thirst. The rain lasted for around three hours. They were happy that they had water for at least a few days.

The rain had given them water to drink, but it had brought new problems with it. The ground had become muddy. The forest was so dense that the sunlight could hardly reach the ground. This meant that the ground would remain muddy for many days to come. They decided to move on in search of a permanent water source. Now their speed of moving ahead had reduced even more due to the mud.

* * * *

They kept moving for the whole week, but they had no luck yet. Tanmay began to think that they were moving in the wrong direction, but they had no idea in which direction they should proceed. So, they continued moving in the same direction. At around noon on the fifth day, they heard some noise which sounded like some waterfall. Everyone rushed in the direction of the noise. They reached the source of the noise within fifteen minutes. What they saw there was magnificent. It was not a waterfall, but a group of warm water springs. The water fell from a great height with a gush. The water at the bottom was warm, but it was flowing with a great force and went straight into another water body that seemed to be a river.

Finally having reached some water source, they decided to take some rest. They all sat at the bank of the river. The injured washed their wounds and were given first aid. Everyone was tired and so soon everyone fell asleep. They slept in the afternoon and woke up next morning. They had decided to move down the river, but as soon as they started moving, a sharp iron piece came down on a person’s head. The person’s skull cracked and he fell dead. Everyone was terrorized. Soon, more such pieces came towards them. Five among the group were soldiers. They asked all to take cover against the trees.

The iron pieces were coming from the other side of the river. The soldiers took their guns and started firing towards the source of these pieces. No one was able to understand what was happening. They knew that they were under attack, but they did not know who was attacking them and why. Tanmay brought out his personal pistol and fired a few shots towards the source.

They were in trouble now. They had limited bullets and were fighting what seemed to be an army, but no one wanted to give up. Firing they moved back into the forest so that they could plan what steps to take. As they moved back into the forest, one iron piece struck Maria’s left foot. She was unable to move. Jim ran towards her and pulled her back. He brought out the iron piece and put some first aid on her foot. She and many others were crying with pain.

Just then, they heard many other groups were running towards them. All of them were actually under attack. Around a thousand people gathered there. Many of them had seen the attackers. They said that they were being attacked by some monsters. Their description of the monsters that were attacking reminded Jim of his dream. The description of the monsters given by different people was exactly the same as he had seen in his dream.

They now started planning. They decided that a group of people would remain on the same side and fight the monsters. The remaining would go about a kilometre down the river and cross the river and attack the monsters from the other side. They assumed that not many monsters were down the river and it would be easy to cross. They knew that the plan had many flaws in it and if just a thing went wrong, everyone would die. They made code words to communicate. They decided to call the group of people staying ‘Bravo’ and the group of people going down as ‘Troopers’.

A group of three hundred people remained on the same side of river and the remaining went down the river. Maria was injured and thus she had to stay. Jim also decided that he would stay. Tanmay moved down the river. He just said, “Let us hope that we will soon meet”, and went ahead. Many people had brought different tools. So, they found some axe and other tools and started cutting the trees to build boats. It took them three days to complete the work. The boats they made were also not strong, so if any boat was attacked they were sure to drown.

These three days, the Bravo group was firing towards the monsters. Most of them were injured and almost everyone was tired. They even didn’t have water to drink as they couldn’t go to the river. They kept firing. They did not know how long will it take for the Troopers to attack from the other side. They had no contact. Whoever had strength was firing at the monsters. Hope was giving them strength to fight. Some monsters had crossed the river and come to their side, but the soldiers shot them in their eyes.

After three days, the Troopers were ready to cross the river with their boats. They had made around thirty boats. Each boat could carry only twenty people at a time. This meant that the boats had to be overloaded with people. They sat on the boats and started crossing the river. One person on each boat was made the captain of the boat. They did not have any proper oars to row the boats. So they used branches to row them.

As they started crossing the river, the monsters started firing metal pieces at them. The fire was so heavy that even if they had something to protect them, they would not have been able to move ahead, but now they had to do it in the open. It was as bad as a suicidal mission, but they kept rowing. Most of them were injured. The captain of Tanmay’s boat called him and asked him to take the branch he was using as an oar. Tanmay saw that his captain’s hand was red with blood. As he moved ahead to take the branch, a metal piece came and struck his captain in his chest, cutting through his skin and finally piercing into his heart. His captain fell dead into the river. Around seven hundred people had started on the other side, and only around four hundred and fifty of them could make to the other side.

As soon as they reached the other side they crawled through the ground and most of them vomited. Tanmay also vomited. None of them had seen such a bloody scene before. Anyways, they had made it across the river. One task that seemed impossible at a time was complete, but they knew that lots of monsters were near them. It had been four days since they had left the Bravo team. Their main task was not yet complete. They had to fight the monsters and rescue those who were on the other side of the river.

Meanwhile, Jim and the other members of the Bravo group were still fighting. Most of the resources had already been used. They knew that they could not resist the monsters for long and they did not know how long the Troopers were going to take to reach to them, but they were not ready to give up. One of the monster said in a loud voice, “You are brave people of the world. Your act of bravery is being highly appreciated among us. We have come from our planet as we need some more space to live. We mean no other harm to you.” Hearing this, the people had just hoped that the war was over, but the monster continued, “Only thing we want you to do is to leave this planet for us and find some other for yourselves. If you agree to this just show us a white cloth. We will arrange your departure from earth.” They were angry with the monster. None of them agreed to what the monster said. Jim looked around. He saw that all of them were filled with dust. They had no white cloth left with them. So, even if anyone agreed with the monsters, there was no way to tell the monsters. Just then someone aimed at the monster speaking and shot him down. The monsters replied to this shot with a heavy fire of metal pieces.

On the other side of the river, the Troopers were moving ahead crawling. They were in the open grassland. They moved fast and reached the area where the grasses were taller. They hid there watching what the monsters were doing. The monster brought some machines that were emitting fire. They were attacking them with fire. Two soldiers took a rocket launcher and aimed a rocket at one of the machines. The rocket hit the machine and fell. Nothing happened to the machine. They fired a second rocket. It did only some minor damage to it. They fired a third and nothing much happened. The monsters then fired on them and both of them were burnt alive. Others did not know what they could do in such situation. They fired at the monsters using the machines. The monsters fired in reply. Such firing went on for around half-an-hour. After that the whole grassland was burning in fire. This side of the river was completely dry. As a result, the fire spread out to a very large area. The Troopers were now trapped in the middle of fire.

The Troopers moved towards the place the war was going on crossing the fire at the places it was weak. It took them one whole day to cross the fire, but the fire was now spreading beyond the grasslands. Some sparks flew to the other side of the forest and the forest there caught fire as well.

The Bravo team had now resisted for more than five days. Their resources were not to last more than two days. They were still fighting. They knew the forest had caught fire. Still they were not afraid. Most of them were already dead. Only about fifty or seventy were left. All of them were injured. Those who were seriously injured were kept in tents and all the others were fighting. Maria’s condition was getting worse. Jim was still fighting. One metal piece came and hit him on his right arm, another on his left leg and he fell. As he fell another metal piece hit him on his back. He was bleeding. A soldier ran to him and dragged him to the camp. He was given first aid, but he was senseless after ten minutes. The hope of the Bravo team was fading with every passing hour.

Maria came to know that Jim was seriously injured. She went near him and sat there. She was not in the best condition, but still she insisted on staying there. Finally someone arranged a bed for her there. Her wounds had started bleeding again. They had to give her more first aid. She slept on the bed watching Jim.

On the sixth day after the war had started, the Troopers reached the war ground. Now only around three hundred of them were left. They attacked the monsters from the back. The monsters were shocked at this sudden attack, but they were very powerful. They repelled the attack on both sides. They fired heavy metal pieces. Knowing that the Troopers had reached the other side, the Bravo group got new hope. They now attacked with all the force that they had. Anyone who could hold a gun joined the battle. The forces of the men were weak. They started perishing on both sides. The monsters had large number of machines, but still the Troopers somehow managed to move forward. Many of them were seriously injured, but they had to leave them where they fell. They had no choice.

As they were advancing, Tanmay saw that a building made of rocks was there, from where more monsters were coming out. He took a few men with him and entered the building quietly. He saw that the building was their headquarters. He surrounded the building with explosives and ran out with the group. As they were running out, a group of monsters saw them. They followed them, but it was already too late for the monsters. As soon as Tanmay came out of the building with the group, he exploded the building.

As soon as the building exploded a miracle happened. The blank spot disappeared from the satellite pictures. It was as if an island had appeared there. Jim’s cell phone was ringing. Their wireless systems were working. Maria picked up Jim’s phone. It was Mr. Jitendra Yadav and he had called Jim to tell him about the island that had appeared on the screen of the satellite pictures. She told Mr. Jitendra the situation that was on the Island. He told her, “Don’t worry. I’ll do something.” Jim came to his senses then, but was still in pain. She told Jim everything and asked him to rest.

Even though the building of the monsters was destroyed, the war was far from over. After an hour all the resources of the Bravo team were exhausted. They were tired and weak. They had nothing left to defend themselves with. They were forced to surrender. The monsters started crossing the river and came to the side of the Bravo team. They took all of them captive and took them to other side. Now they had only to resist the Troopers.

At around evening on the same day, air-force of many countries attacked the monsters. They contacted the Troopers and told them that a rescue ship was waiting for them at the northern coast of the island. They also told that the northern coast was only three kilometers away. Taking advantage of the air attack the Troopers rescued the Bravo group from the prison of the monsters and taking them they reached the northern coast. A ship was waiting for them. They all boarded the ship and it took them straight to Chennai. There they were admitted in the hospital and were treated. It took them more than a month to recover.

* * * *

Out of the three thousand people who went to the island, only five hundred returned alive. So many lives were sacrificed, but it was not in vain. The war on the island lasted for the next six months to come. The monsters were very strong. The building was their control center, but their complete army was there. Finally after many bloody battles on the island, the island was destroyed and so were the monsters.

Jim confessed to Maria that he loved her when they were relieved from the hospital. She told him that she too loved him. Soon they got married. Jim was promoted and was made the head of the department. He is still friends with Mr. Jitendra. Maria too joined the same office. Now they are settled in Bhopal and are the parents of two kids. Tanmay is still the captain of a ship. He enjoys the voyages. Each voyage gives him a new adventure. He sometimes visits Jim and Maria. Their kids proudly boast this event to all their friends. Jim sometimes feels sad remembering those who died in the battle, but he still is happy that at least he and Maria are now together.

    Nice story… started well, but I am being a little too harsh but the story could have been shorter… after reading half of the story, I felt like the story was being dragged… but the descriptions and effects were good. Story is just a part of our imagination and things which inspire us, impress us and affect us… you wrote well and that what matters. :)
